An ode to the father of modern medicine
The Hippocrates Garden of Life is officially open, creating an enchanting new space nestled amongst the greenery of Ikos Aria, on the idyllic island of Kos. Featuring dozens of medicinal herbs and plants used in Hippocratic medicine, from thyme and lemon balm, to sage and mint, as well as chaste tree (vitex), artemisia, and wild rose, this serene space celebrates nature’s healing power. Guests are welcome to meander through the garden at their own pace, reading about the various plants and their uses, or to embark on a deeper, immersive experience with our thoughtfully curated audio guide. Either path offers a chance to connect with the enduring spirit of the father of Western medicine.
An immersive journey through time
Hippocrates was born in Kos, and he developed his approach to healing on the island during the 5th Century BC. More than a mere tribute, this enchanting space invites guests to immerse themselves in Hippocrates’ vision, discovering the harmonious connection between nature and wellness. By simply scanning a QR code, guests can learn more with “Dialogues in the Garden” – our interactive, audio-based experience for smartphones and tablets. You’ll also find ingredients from this garden used in fresh dishes served across Ikos Aria restaurants and in crafted cocktails.

Embark on a digital journey that blends myth, medicine and nature. You’ll follow the story of the Greek Nymph Flora as she becomes a student of Hippocrates, who guides her through the healing powers of the various plants found throughout the garden. “Dialogues in the Garden” is a narrative-led exploration that illustrates Hippocrates’ global impact on medicine, from ancient practices to modern ethics, and emphasises the deep connection between humans and nature. It’s a space that invites guests of all ages to pause and reflect, educating and inspiring them to be mindful of the world around them. This interactive experience comprises seven distinct ‘episodes’, each linked to one of the Garden’s seven ‘Corners’, which are all filled with a healing collection of Mediterranean plants.
Complete the journey
To deepen the connection between past and present, guests are invited to take their discovery beyond the garden. Hop into a Tesla and explore the Asklepieion, one of the most important ancient healing temples, and the International Hippocratic Foundation, which offers further insight into the legacy of Hippocrates. It’s a meaningful way to round out your journey, where history, nature and innovation come beautifully together.
